On Wednesday the 1st and 8th July starting at 6.30pm at St Giles Church Hall there will be a concert with Killamarsh Training Band and local brass learners from Killamarsh Junior & Infants and St Giles Junior School.

Within the village there are a number of brass learners at the local schools and in association with their brass teacher. Miss K Salt we are putting on a concert where the parents can see how their children have progressed and also for them to see what Killamarsh Training Band does.

Killamarsh Training Band was formed to provide the future players for Killamarsh Silver Band (formed 1886) and we currently have 12 youngsters that are playing to a very high standard.  We have a number at Grade 3 if anyone is aware of music grading, Grade 8 is the top level but that is only asked for those wanting to join orchestras etc.

Tickets for the concert will initially be allocated to the parents of children taking part but if there are any spare I will be happy to let any interested parties have some.

It's only gong to be for an hour.  Due to the numbers of brass learners at the two schools we are holding it over two nights, Killlamarsh Juniors the first week and St Giles Juniors the second.

Well it wasn't quite so "cool" last night – it was absolutely roasting in the hall.  It was however a complete sell out (all entrance was free it was restricted to parents of the children).

38 learners from Killamarsh Junior School gave a 45minute performance followed by 15mins from Killamarsh Training Band.  We even managed to get an instrument out to an ex-brass player (Mum of one of the school children) so we are hoping that gives us 2 more players for our little band.

The Training Band is having a break for the summer period until the 13th September when we hope to restart with lots of new learners – rehearsals are at 4pm every Sunday at the St Giles Church Hall.

Looking forward to repeating the event next Wednesday with St Giles Primary School.
