SNOW THREAD WINTER 2010/11

Nice to see a small group of neighbours out this morning helping to clear the road so that those that need to get out in today's snow can.  Last year we asked the council to consider providing a grit bin and guess what? We got one last week, just before the snow and its provided invaluable in getting the road cleared.

Considering all the local schools are closed didnt see many kids out helping to clear – perhaps the schools or the parents could instill a "coummunity spirit" rule – no school = morning clear roads and help the old for a couple of hours then enjoy the "snow day"

Well Francis the grit bins are a great idea I just wish the council would put one up near the Manor estate, Manor road becomes Impassible at the first covering of snow thus blocking the whole estate with only one route in and out, god forbid we ever have a house fire at the top of the estate, emergency services just wouldn't be able to get through, but only the people that live on the estate can see this problem it's to far from the ivory towers to even contemplate any help of any kind, even IF the snow plough/gritters are out they take the road around The Nags Head along Westthorpe road and completely ignore Upperthorpe Rod and Hut Lane so maybe a grit bin on the Manor would be a waste of council funds, after all there only 70 odd dwellings on The Manor, in this weather we might as well be on the moon. The last time I queried the decision to keep Westthorpe Road clear I was told they had to keep the road to the pit open, surely after 26 years this is now up for revue,or does the half used industrial estate carry the same importance,I don't know.

francis do you live on norward because i was out from 1130 to 0400 clearing the road but i think your methord of rule – no school = morning clear roads and help the old for a couple of hours then enjoy the "snow day" is a good one but laws and kids behaver is the problem. the kids dont want to help (thats some of them) and there is a law bout kids working and on the roads.

There is a map on Derbyshire County Councils website showing the designated "salted" roads for the village that is:

Sheffield Road, Bridge Street, High Street, Sheepcote Road, Walford Road, Rowan Tree Road, Cherry Tree Drive, Westhorpe Road, Upperthorpe Road, Hut Lane, Spinkhill Road and Rotherham Road through High Moor.

Take your pick out of that which ones they've been anywhere near.  There has clearly been a concerted decision not to give these roads the attention they deserved and we have paid for.  Dronfield bypass and road to M1 from Chesterfield still down to one lane of traffic – the resources havent been applied there either – where are these gritters working?

Saw a gritter today approx 13.00 on the road from Renshaws Farm (at the top of Pebley hill) going towards Barlboro, ironically this road has had a 7.5 ton weight limit imposed,so is not to be used by HGVs therefore not a classified road, the designated route for said vehicles is straight on to Southgate X roads, which is STILL BLOCKED!!!!! when I came past the solution seemed to be to park a DCC transit broadside to stop you going that way.

PS thanks for that Francis more shells for the artillery barrage when and if I can get to talk to someone who will take responsibility for this mess, if you try to phone either the county or the district council all you get is bounced from one department to the other until some one just puts the phone down.
