I was talking to a resident who had read the minutes to the march meeting about the proposed 24 houses to be built on Sheffield road. He told me if they are going to raise the houses above the flood line they will have to build the houses above the Rother valley Flood barrier which would be nigh on impossible. The council need to build more flood defences for the houses that are allready there eg: Wade and Madins site, because in 2007 the flood water was six foot above there kitchen windows if it was'nt for the barrier it would have flooded the bottom of killamarsh. As to why the building in killamarsh is epidemic is, a donation is given to the council, when a certain amount of  houses are built. I bet if the houses are built who ever buys them will not be told its on a flood plain.Yell

A "donation" what form does this take and how much is it?  I understand that planning fees are paid to the County/District Council but I'm not aware that a Parish Council receives any payment other than additional precept through the Council Tax.  There is stamp duty as well but that goes to central government.

As to finding out about risk of flooding that should be discovered by solicitors searches and a simple check on the Environment Agency flood areas has this area coloured and marked as follows:

"The location you have selected is in an area that has a significant chance of flooding. The chance of flooding each year is greater than 1.3% (1 in 75). This takes into account the effect of any flood defences that may be in this area, whether or not these are currently illustrated on the Flood Map."

Talking to the owners  of  one of the development sites the donation takes the form of a donation for playground and activity  equipment and goes on a percentage depending on how many houses are built. Crofters reach is a good example but the amount given does not equate to the very small play area which was left after the build. What I cannot understand is why build on play areas such as the Nags field and then ask for a donation for activity  equipment when there building on a play area.
