Has anybody seen owt of the gritters the last couple of days, as a nurse it is imperative i get to work, however living on an estate it has been virtually impossible to drive my little car anywhere without skidding all over the place.
Coming home on sunday night all roads had been gritted l untill I hit Killamarsh it was like dicing with death, why dont the Council grit the main estate roads? I am not saying the little side roads through estates, but the main roads would be a help after all we all pay council tax and most of us have to get to work, just because we live on an estate we have to struggle. Mind you if they are not gritting the main roads then maybe I am whistling in the wind.

The goat track to the mountainous regions will probably be closed until March, it normally is.You can't expect to have the finest council meeting chambers in all of Christendom and beyond with all the elaborate trimmings, free beer for attending council meetings(if you're lucky enough to be one of Lord Charles's goons)and have the roads gritted you ungrateful serfs!Just look at all the good things that get done, give me a month or two I'll probably think of one, maybe (allthough my memory isn't that good and I've only lived here 37 years). After all they've just fleeced a charity shop for £450 that should keep the beer flowing for another couple of jollies or may be a trip for one of them,if they can get out of the village but I suppose there will be a fleet of gritters and road sweepers for the lordship and dignitaries of the parish or maybe taxi's laid on mustn't be seen to be slacking wasting money. And yet again the council war cry rings loudly in my ears I'M ALLRIGHT JACK ETC.ETC.

Drove back from Sheffield Sunday afternoon and roads all fine until I started to drive up Wulford Road, complete nightmare between end of Sheepcote Road and top of the hill as cars stuggling to get up and slidding down on both directions – plenty of people out enjoying the spectacul.
Ended up getting stuck on slight hill on Sheepcote Road so left car there overnight.
Monday morning managed to rescue car back to top of Bryony Close, no point taking it home cos the roads a nightmare in snow/ice – got it back today having given road outside a clean as the temperature dropped which seems to be the case today.
Walked down the street on Monday to Coop and noticed the parish council handymen were salting the footpaths to the Bungalows but the footpaths on Bridge Street were paths of ice. I appreciate that the OAPs down on the bungalows need assistance but why encourage them to get out if you cant walk on the paths by the shops?
Paths on Bridge Street were gritted this morning – a bit too late?
My Mum lives on Ashley which hadnt been gritted – she rang Alan Charles who personally delivered some bags of salt/grit.
I know on this forum some of you like a regular go at the “council” but I also know the Managers know exactly which element of the council is responsible for what but just in case anyone needs a lesson in UK politics – the Parish Council are responsible for the footpaths and the County Council is responsible for the gritting of the roads.
Not sure what happens about minor or estate roads – the main roads all seem clear now and there are a number of these that really could do with some grit.

I honestly don't think the county council know the Manor estate exists IF a gritter is seen in the parish it disappears down by the Nags Head only to re-appear by Rose Cottage.I contacted the county council during the bad snow in the early 90's as to getting Upperthorpe Road gritted only to be told their priorities were to keep the road open to Westthorpe Colliery, I hadn't the heart to tell them at the time it shut in 1985.Incompetence it seems doesn't end at parish level. As for the footpaths and car parks in the village,do we still have any parish council employees to carry out this work,or has this to be contracted out?And surely the parish council have the power to ask the county council for assistance with road gritting on routs in,out and through the village,if we have to rely on Matlock to make every decision why have we got a parish council?Perhaps we could start a council to keep the parish council informed that snow and ice make roads slippery then they can inform the county council by that time it should be at least March, thaw set in,snow and ice melted problem solved!
P.S. Don't we have a county councillor on our parish council I keep seeing a familiar name on county council expense sheets!
Unfortunately the problem isn't unique to Killamarsh this government is so hell bent on wasting money on illegal wars, importing foreigners and generally inter-fearing with other countries problems THE COUNTRY IS NOW SO SKINT we hardly qualify has a G8 power.£480.000.000 a day was quoted on the radio this morning as to how quick the countries debt is growing.Headlines in The Sun a few weeks ago £1.600 a week rent paid for a Somali refugee and his family no mention of other benefits how much more will it take till someone sees sense!

Yes whiskyman I too can remember this incident, my parents then lived on the westthorpe estate and as elderely residents could not get out because of the weather, on walking my dog I noticed that a certain councillor (who shall remain nameless) had had his road gritted right up to his front door although the rest of Killamarsh was stuggling with icy roads !!

The parish councillors should be made to visit the elderly and vulnerable to see if they need anything if they cannot get out of the house, a lot of elderly dont have freinds or family to visit when the weather is bad. The council should know who is most in need and see that they are looked after, years ago the council used to visit in a van but that has now gone because they cannot make anything out of it, its a sad day when people are housebound because of poor administration.

Francis wrote about people wanting lessons in local politics if this council had better lessons on the ORIGINAL Labour concept instead of running about with a red overcoat hiding a blue blazer the village could return to as it was some years ago when councillors were approachable and sympathetic to the needs of the village and the elderly.
As for knocking the council if they could be seen to be doing ANY GOOD whatsoever in the village or even thinking of anyone else apart from themselves I WOULD CERTAINLY give praise to them, but until then I will keep knocking them, you have to earn respect in this world.
The county council or district council are no better but probably don't read this site,or do but hide their heads in the sand knowing they are in a Labour strong hold but with feelings running as they are?

The village may never return to the good old days (respect, manners, helpfullness, justice, looking after others, cleanliness, pride, etc, etc, etc). Too many people wanting to do others a bad turn not a good one, as to the council being approachable show them twenty pieces of silver and you wont get rid of them, ask them to do something and they hide behind the wallpaper.

I have spent the last 3 days helping people to get up our cul-de sac, in their skidding vehicles. I have used all my dishwashing salt, had my rubber door mats burned through with the skidding, and tried soda crystals, (did nothing) scraping the road with a shovel, (nothing again, it was solid ice), even lent out my snow chains, which although straight out of the packet, one broke in seconds, the other rolled round itself and almost embedded in the tyre, had to be broke to be removed. I finally found and bought some bags of rock salt. Everytime someone skidded, I went out armed with the salt, mats, and advice on how others had finally moved or not. All were extreemly grateful, and although I cant push them to help, being a woman and approaching a certain age, I feel I have done a bit to give my neighbours a sllightly better xmas.
Merry Christmas to the rest of you, and I hope you all would lend help to someone stuck in any way, xxxxx
By the way, my husband has a 4x4, and we have never yet been stuck, so all this stuff was purely for unselfish reasons (polishes my christmas halo, lol)

Give that Halo a rub from me too Marsha,my confidence in human nature is slowly returning Tup's shop for the church,Marsha on traffic duty, the new picture framing shop donating to Tup's,the new fruit and veg shop donating to Tup's emporium. Is this the seeds of the old village returning we have all been waiting for?If so lets nurture them in the new year and hope things get better.I've also read of Councillor Charles delivering rock salt to a pensioner well done that man,a sincere compliment.I just hope this Christmas spirit lasts.A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to you ALL.

Thank you for your replies to my post, i am rather nervous on the forums, having seen some sarcastic responses to posts on other forums.
I note there is quite a lot of dissatisfaction with things here in general. Its good to complain, and feel you are heard.
I find that even if things are not, or cant be, changed it would be useful to me if options could be looked at, and even small changes can make a difference.
For instance, I suggested and got agreement that after xmas, some of our neighbours club together with a few pounds to buy a bit of road salt, so we can try to keep our little cul-de-sac a bit safer for cars, and people. Even if no one has any money left, I shall buy a bit more, it could save a lot more than I spend on it!
Motto for New Year-
I get more of what iI want when I smile!
(not meaning to be patronising)

Well I knew it wouldn't last the village arsholes have risen to their “highs” of drunken stupidity again smashing wing mirrors off cars on Westthorpe Road and Beech Crescent surely it's not rocket science to know where these low lifes get their alcohol and at least keep a police check on the places even if they don't want to stop it! I've said it before BRING BACK THE BIRCH!!!!
I didn't really aught to call thes things "arseholes" as at least these do have a function and a role in life however unpleasant,it really is an insult to a body part.
Oh well back to the Killamarsh we all know!!

Just heard on the news that councils are running out of salt stocks, of course. This will mean more scrapes and accidents. Then the insurance companies have yet another excuse to make us all pay more in our policies. So we pay for our roads to be safe, and yet pay again if they are not because someone failed in their budgeting.
Also, I hear we are to have a new extra cost on top of fines paid by motorists for speeding ect, to help provide assistrance to victims of crime. I fail to see any connection at all. Where will be proof that these poor people get any extra help, after all, road tax doesn't all go on roads, does it? And if politics/police cant keep people safer, why should motorists pay extra?
I believe this is a way to massage the tax, by using our sympathies for victims, and the worry we may be next, to extract even more money from us, by politicians who are not using public money wisely, and have been too greedy for the countries good.

Natasha can't have a £2000 sofa and you serfs have the roads gritted SHE'S AN M.P.! for gods sake, this is a Labour strong hold get your priorities right.Derbyshire County Council will have used the wheelbarrow of salt it stock-piled on her drive mustn't stop the delivery vans, she wouldn't be able to spend her expenses. You also have to think about the councillors pension fund can't expect them to spend that money where it should be spent, when they are having larger pockets to line, unless we put up council tax again, and as for the goat track to the mountainous region, it disappeared about 09.00 this morning.
The fine hike is yet again only another Labour stealth tax on the motorist, that badger-headed t**t can't think of any thing else,if they looked closer to home and cut their expenses and immigration bring back the soldiers and stop wasting money on an unwinable war, that, after all has nothing to do with us, except it allowed Blair to strut about with his thumbs in his belt like a turkey cock or should that be like a turkey's cock in front of that over ego'ed sabre rattling, swamp dwelling, inbreed George W.Bush!
You guessed it I can't stand either of em!!!!!!!!!!!
