Because Ii drive a wide vehicle and have to be cautious on narrow roads, I think it would be  sensible and much safer for pedestrians, especially with buggies and elderly, if we could have a footpath on the outside edge of the first bridge out of Killamarsh, similar to the one in Clowne.  I know it is always money shortages/excuses, especially if there is no return for your expense, but it just seems crazy t have a foot path not fit for purpose, on a bridge too narrow for the traffic that uses it to pass, and the foot path could then be used to widen the road a little.

sorry if this idea has been suggested before.

In Dec 2007 a lottery bid as part of a UK wide scheme for improving access was won by Sustran and incorporated within that bid was a new pedestrian/cycle bridge across the Rother to resolve the problem you have identified.

£50 million was awarded to the project in the Peoples Lottery vote.

There are a total of 79 project up to 2013 and currently 31 are underway.

I dont know when the Rother bridge is scheduled but there was some ground investigation carried out this year and this morning there appeared to be a traffic census as there were 3 cars parked up between Station Road and the bridge

heres a link to the site map - unfortunately its not clear where the bridge is intended to be built is not clear. Anyone actually know?

Thank you Marsha for your topic, We touched on this subject a number of years ago before computers and the web.A number of years ago the second bridge ( The Sheffield side ) was under repair due to weakness of the supports and it was under repair for a couple of years at least, if you can remember the traffic lights were there for what seemed years. In the event of this, the Derbyshire council side had the perfect opportunity to do the pedestrian footbridge they were contacted to put plans into practice but sadly they did'nt. There was also supposed to be preliminary plans for a parrallel  Steel or Iron footbridge which would have came out just past White Waters on the right hand side but this would have entailed working in conjunction with Sheffield council and as we know first hand councils don't work together so that was probably shelved. As to Francis's comments  these are correct but we don't feel they will be implemented very soon. They may wait until it is to expensive to implement, instead of using the money immediately to get the most out of the funding. Thank you for your topic we can  now ask the council what is happening if anythingSmileSmile
